Personal: One minute to midnight on the 31st of October, little Maleficent came into the world. The midwife took one look at the baby girl's mop of raven hair, her almost-black eyes and her bright green skin and announced "this child's a dark 'un" before handing the tiny tot over to her mother. Despite being a month premature, the girl was healthy save for the almost-emerald colour of her skin. Her father had been a forest-nymph and she inherited the green-ness from him, though he'd always had pale skin. As she grew older, the colour of the girl's skin paled to a mint-green and her eyes changed colour the older she grew. They went from black to brown to forest-green to olive-green to grey and finally settled on blue. In her teenage years she often bought potions to make the colour of her skin normal, but after a while she gave up since it was both expensive and she gave up caring what her peers thought of her.

During her schooling years the girl was horribly bullied and found solace in the world of books. She would spend hours poring over the old textbooks at the town library, learning and practising the magic that she read in there. Soon she was mastering spells beyond the level of what they were being taught at school and she used this to her advantage, getting her revenge on the bullies that made her life a misery. One day when rummaging around in the attic at home, Maleficent came across and old trunk, full of her Grandmother's old diaries, textbooks and workbooks. Her Grandmother had been a talented witch in the Shadow Citadel. Maleficent began studying and practicing everything she read in the textbooks and began to use this magic against her peers. Normal magic hadn't stopped the bullying, but this certainly did the trick. She was often in detention for putting curses on other students and her mother got called in several times to speak to the head-teachers. Ignoring her daughter's protests that she was being bullied and it was all in self-defence

Eventually Maleficent left the school and moved out of home. She continued her studies all on her own, living in a tiny abandoned cottage on the outskirts of the meadows and orchards. She would go into the city centre every couple of days to visit the library and study. During one of her usual study session visits to the library, she met the Queen and the two became friends and eventually lovers. The affair went on for quite a while and Maleficent had even fallen in love when the Queen decided to break it off. Hurt and upset, Maleficent ran away from Armonia, deciding to go to the Shadow Citadel where she felt she would be able to fit in more, especially with her dark magic. Her mother obviously did not want her, her father was Gods-only-knew where and now that the only person she'd cared for had broken her heart, there was nothing left in Armonia for Maleficent. She made her way through Ziemia, before finally ending up at the Shadow Citadel, where she met King Tyrannus and the two became lovers. Years later she was part of the team that transformed Tyrannus into his current form. The King killed everyone but her.

Years later, Maleficent got word that the Queen had given birth to a daughter. Angry and hurt at not being invited to the "let's-show-the-newborn-off-to-the-kingdom" party, Maleficent arrives at the castle. She is outwardly courteous but implies she is offended that she did not receive an invitation to the ceremony like the other fairies (Flora, Fauna and Merryweather). When she asks the king and queen why she was not invited, Merryweather speaks up and tells Maleficent that she was "not wanted". Shocked (or more likely, pretending to be shocked), she turns to leave this "awkward situation", giving the king and queen one last chance to make up for not inviting her. The queen asks her if she was offended by this and Maleficent denies it, offering to give a "gift" to Aurora to prove she "bears no ill will". Maleficent then says that Aurora will grow in grace and beauty and be "beloved by all who know her" as well, but to punish the king and queen for their insolence, places a curse on Aurora, so that before the sun sets on her 19th birthday, Aurora will "prick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel and die!" Merryweather, who still has a gift she can use, weakens the curse so that Aurora will fall into a deep sleep instead (and at 21, not 19), with only a kiss from her true love to awaken her.

As the years pass and with every Summer it comes closer to when Maleficent's curse is supposed to happen, the three fairies take the girl and hide her in the Forest, living there along with her. When the girl is sixteen, Maleficent sends her goblin minions to find the girl. Three years later they show up and the sorceress learns that they had wasted the years, focusing on searching for a baby the whole time. Maleficent blasts lightning at them in her fury and then instructs her raven familiar Diablo to hunt down the now adolescent Aurora.

She leaves and settles down in the Dark Citadel (the castle in ex-Wonderland) so she can be close by and not waste time once Diablo found the princess. Once he succeeds, Maleficent visits Aurora on the evening of her twenty-first birthday in a form of a will-o'-the-wisp, hypnotizing Aurora before luring her to a remote tower and transforming into a spinning wheel where she pricks her finger to fulfil the curse. She takes the sleeping princess and locks her in the other castle on Wonderland territory (the Red Queen's old palace). Years pass and the curse is not lifted, though many brave the journey there to try and awaken her One day, however, Diablo informs Maleficent that James Mercer has finally found out what happened to his dear Aurora and is planning on saving her. Maleficent ascends to the top of the highest tower of the castle. She summons lightning bolts and spells at James to hinder him, including a "forest of thorns", which James is able to overcome, before personally dealing with him by transporting herself in front of the castle, blocking his entry. She then tells him that he shall have to fight her and transforms into a huge dark dragon. Though she overwhelms him, and it looks like James is about to meet his death, the three fairies transfer some of their power to James's sword as he slices her wings off and overbalancing, the sorceress falls off the cliff they were fighting on. Assuming that the woman is dead, the fairies and love-birds go back to Armonia to rejoice.

Wounded heavily as she was (but most certainly not dead), Maleficent manages to get back home to the Shadow Citadel. Almost near death from blood-loss and exhaustion, she is worked on by the best Healers that the Citadel can get. After many long and painful months, she is able to get the feeling and movement back in her arms. She still bears the scars from the battle (those the Healers could not remove) and has not stepped back into Armonia since that night. However, since Maleficent is not one to ignore and forgive, she is currently plotting the downfall of James and Aurora. Knowing the Shadow King's hatred of the Glowing Citadel royal family, she plans on getting him involved in her goal to destroy them.
